Scotty Fields

Scotty Fields was born and raised in Richmond, Kentucky, where, as a child, he was regularly exposed to Bluegrass music. Scotty's father played in several well-known bands, including "The Boys From Indiana", "Southern Blend", "John Cosby and the Bluegrass Drifters" and "JD Crowe and the New South".
At the young age of five, Scotty became hooked on performing. At a festival in Clay City, Kentucky, Scotty performed the song "Big Spike Hammer". Scotty received a standing ovation.

At the age of sixteen, Scotty began to get more serious about music. Initially, he took guitar lessons from his father, and learned three cords and basic Bluegrass rhythms. With the help of both of his parents, Scotty very quickly learned all of the major chords and began to take advanced rhythm lessons from Guitarist Richard Bennett. Richard helped Scotty develop his technique and in a year's time, Scott began to study lead guitar.

When he was nineteen, Scotty helped persuade his family to start a band. The band, "Wayne Fields and Driftwood", consisted of his father, Wayne Fields, on the banjo, his mother, Tina Fields, on the bass, his younger brother, Charles Fields, on the mandolin, his grandmother, Molly Hickey, playing guitar and singing lead vocals, and his aunt, Cindy Bryant, also on the mandolin. Scotty played with the band until early 2004, when the band stopped playing due to his grandmother's recently-diagnosed cancer, which left her unable to play.

After joining the Kati Penn Band for about a year, Scotty was asked to tour across the bluegrass region with Dean Osborne. During his time with Dean Scotty got the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to play with some of his heroes in music; JD Crowe, Bobby Osborne, Sam Bush, Mac Wiseman, Josh Graves just to name a few.

After starting a solo project in late 2006, Scotty's Music career came to a halt when he lost his grandmother. His project that was nearly finished was also lost in a garage fire that destroyed his family's studio and their home. In 2007 Scotty's father Wayne was diagnosed with Stage 4 Colon cancer. Wayne lost his battle to cancer in March of 2008. That same year Scotty would also lose his uncle Larry to cancer.

Scotty had become friends with some of his bluegrass heroes while touring with Dean Osborne and in 2007 Scotty was given the chance to fulfill one of his musical dreams. He got to play the Grand Ole Opry with good friend Bobby Osborne. This paired with a couple of appearances at the Midnight Jamobree (Ernest Tubb's Record Shop - Nashville TN) started his momentum once again.

Scotty decided to strike out on his own in 2008. Immediately his band started working on a project that was a combination of songs written by Scotty and those given to a good friend of his families; Ilean Huddleston. The band decided that it would be fitting to name itself "Driftwood" in honor of Scotty's dad and family who originally inspired him to play.

Some of Scotty's achievements include: Playing the Grand Ole Opry with Bluegrass Legend Bobby Osborne (Rocky Top), Playing to a national audience on the "After the Opry" show at the age of 19, being filmed on KET's Jubilee program while playing with "Wayne Fields and Driftwood", and fronting for country artists such as Kenney Chesney, Joe Dee Mesina, Billy Covington and Miranda Lambert.

In addition, he has played on stage with various Bluegrass artists, including JD Crowe, Richard Bennett, Josh Graves, Bobby Osborne, Mac Wiseman, Ricky Wasson, Sam Bush, Paul Williams and Wayne Fields.

Scotty continues to push himself to grow musically and is currently working on a project from his band "Driftwood" which is expected to be released in mid-to-late 2009.
